Transport @ 5 million

Tuesday 7th September 2010, 5:00pm - 6:30pm

Department of Transport Theatrette, Level 5 / 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne

Melbourne 2030 provides a long-term strategy for Melbourne and the surrounding region directing the growth of activity centres and the designated growth areas. It also introduced the Urban Growth Boundary as a tool to manage the outward growth of metropolitan Melbourne. Melbourne @ 5 Million was a key refinement of this which acknowledged that Melbourne is growing faster than originally predicted under Melbourne 2030 and is now likely to reach five million before 2030.

With all those extra people, the Melbourne @ 5 Million plan needs to address the future requirements of transport, communities and infrastructure. But what are the transport implications of this growth and how will they be managed?

The AITPM is pleased to invite you to a seminar to discuss the transport strategies that are being developed to manage the future growth from three perspectives, that of managing growing travel demand in inner Melbourne, managing transport and accessibility in growth areas and managing transport links within Central Activity Districts.

Guest speakers:

Simon Wong Senior Policy Advisor, Public Transport Division,
Department of Transport
DOT's response in Inner Melbourne
Mark Knudsen Director, Infrastructure Coordination, Growth Areas Authority
GAA's response in Melbourne's Growth Areas
Suzanne Cleary Senior Transport Planner, Hume City Council
A Council's response to the strategy
